It does not act on GABA receptors; instead, it binds the α2δ subunit of voltage‑gated calcium channels, decreasing excitatory neurotransmitter release and dampening hyperexcitable neural circuits. Absorption is dose‑dependent and saturable via the L‑amino acid transport system, so bioavailability falls at higher doses.
