The medication works by selectively inhibiting the androgen receptor (AR), which is the key driver of prostate cancer growth. Enzalutamide blocks multiple steps in the androgen signaling pathway: it prevents androgens like testosterone from binding to the AR, stops the AR from moving to the cell nucleus, and inhibits AR binding to DNA, thereby halting the activation of genes that promote cancer cell survival and proliferation.
